Betty’s Smile

Living on 4th Street was always filled with nice gestures from our neighbors.

Betty Thompson was one of my favorite neighbors.

She would walk by our home on her way to church. I think she may have passed by every day as she was devoted to her faith.

Betty was friendly. She always passed by with a smile and a hello.

It seemed like the whole world would light up when she gave me a hearty and sincere greeting, waving with one hand while holding her bible in the other hand. She was always nicely dressed.

No matter where our paths crossed she always made a point to greet me with a hello and a smile.

She was very encouraging in a way that brought out the best in people and it was apparent that her magic naturally came from her loving disposition. She was a wonderful woman who was greatly respected and admired in the community.
